Yes. S2W AI Navigator — and by extension AI Concierge, which uses Navigator’s key — requires a valid OpenAI API key. You create this on your own OpenAI account at platform.openai.com. The key starts with sk-.

Typical monthly cost for a small site (20–50 pages, moderate traffic) is $1–$3. OpenAI bills your account directly — speak2web sees none of this cost.

This is almost always one of three things:

• No OpenAI API key saved. Go to S2W AI Navigator → Settings → General and paste your key. A red admin notice banner appears on every admin page until a valid key is saved.
• AI Navigator hasn’t indexed any pages yet. Click Index All Pages Now on the Navigator settings page. The widget needs at least one indexed page to have something to answer from.
• (AI Concierge only) One of the three readiness gates is red. Open S2W AI Concierge → Personas — the banner at the top shows which gate needs attention.

You usually don’t need to. After the first manual index, every time a post or page is saved, AI Navigator automatically re-indexes just that page in the background. The index always stays current.

Run a full manual re-index via Index All Pages Now when: you’ve upgraded the plugin, changed the embedding model, done a bulk content migration, or enabled semantic chunking for the first time.

You can use any one on its own, but they build on each other:

• AI Navigator is the foundation — it reads and indexes your site content and powers the chat widget. It works standalone.
• AI Concierge sits on top of Navigator and adds personas, escalations, and template workflows. It requires Navigator.
• AI Gateway is optional infrastructure for giving personas real tool access — booking appointments in LatePoint, creating Jira tickets, looking up EDD licenses. Install it when you want your AI to resolve, not just answer.

If all three are installed, they must run on the same S2W_INFRA_VERSION (currently 1_2). Update them together.

It’s not in the plugin settings page — it’s in the post editor sidebar. Open any page or post for editing, then look in the right-hand sidebar for a box labelled “S2W AI Navigator — Page Role.”

If you don’t see it, click the three-dot menu (⋮) at the top right of the editor and check Preferences → Panels to make sure it’s enabled.

Setting the correct role on your 5–10 most important pages (Contact, Pricing, Product, FAQ, About) is the single highest-leverage configuration action you can take — it directly improves navigation accuracy.

Yes. A seven-pattern PII scrubber runs automatically before any conversation data is written to the database — credit card numbers, SSNs, bank accounts, passport numbers, phone numbers, emails, and IP addresses are redacted.

AI Concierge exposes a Privacy page for right-to-erasure by email, plus a wp s2w-aic erase <email> WP-CLI command. Conversation retention defaults to 90 days and is configurable. Credentials for Gateway providers (EDD, Jira, MCP Proxy) are stored AES-256-CBC encrypted.

Yes. Multilingual mode is enabled by default in AI Navigator and operates at the server level, not via browser translation. The visitor’s browser language is auto-detected, a language picker appears in the widget header, and all queries are processed and answered in the selected language. WPML and Polylang are detected automatically through their hreflang tags.

Voice input uses OpenAI Whisper, which supports 50+ languages.

Pro licenses are domain-tied. Moving to a new domain requires a license transfer — open a ticket in our support portal and include both the old and new domain names. Transfers are normally processed within one business day.
